After, more than four decades, of involvement, in, nearly, all areas of leading, from identifying and qualify, to training, developing, and consulting to over a thousand, actual, and/ or, potential leaders, as well as having served and represented constituents/ stakeholders, as a leader, on several occasions, I believe, when one articulates, a message, of HOPE, in a positive, clear way, the possibilities, for greater effectiveness, and accomplishments, are significantly enhanced! We should realize, most are more ready, willing, and able, to be inspired by someone, with a consistent, realistic, positive, can – do, attitude, than, someone, who seems to emphasize, the reasons, something may be impossible! With that in mind, this article will attempt to, briefly, consider, examine, review, and discuss, using the mnemonic approach, what this means, and represents, and why it matters.

1. Healing; humane; humble; head/ heart: One of the often – overlooked, necessities of a real leader, must be, his focus on healing the wounds, and divisiveness, and bring others together, for the greater good, seeking a viable solution, which aligns with creating, a meeting – of – the – minds! Others look at their leaders, and are comforted, by someone, who clearly demonstrates, he is humane, caring, and empathetic, and willing to put, those he serves and represents, first! It must never be about that individual, but, rather, the best interests of the group, and, thus, we are better represented, by someone, who combines, many personal strengths, with a willingness, to be humble. To achieve this objective, it’s important to balance the logical and emotional components, in a head/ heart balance!

2. Options; opportunities; open – mind: Avoid having individuals, with a My way or the highway, perspective, become your leader! We need people, who have an open – mind, consider a variety of options, and alternatives, and seek the finest opportunities, in order to make a difference, for the better!

3. Priorities; perceptions; planning; purpose; philosophy/ perspective: When one has the philosophy, of putting the best interests of others, first, his perspective, is generally, to emphasize, true priorities, which impact, both perceptions, and actual needs, etc! When properly, professionally, trained, this individual, must be capable of quality, relevant planning, with a purpose, to make his group, better, and stronger!

4. Empathy; emphasis; efforts; enrich; excellence; endurance: Only, when someone, effectively listens, and learns, from every conversation, and experience, seeking greater understanding, knowledge and expertise, will he proceed with the genuine empathy, which makes his stakeholders, hopeful, for the future! He must align his emphasis with these discoveries, and place his efforts, toward enriching his organization, and stakeholders, by proceeding, consistently, demanding his utmost degree of personal excellence. When, combined with the necessary degree of endurance, and persistence, everyone benefits!

If you hope, to become a leader, how will you bring HOPE, to those you serve and represent? Are you, up to the task?
