Sidney Sheldon’s Chasing Tomorrow is a novel that I enjoyed reading three years ago when I had the pressure off my tasks. I had requested my brother to buy some of Sidney’s novels and paid him well. Fast forward today in the spooky environment of my new home when evening approaches, I thought reading a novel was a great way to forget everything and even myself. That’s why I got hold of the book to write a review.
About the Book
“Chasing Tomorrow” is a continuation of the novel “If Tomorrow Comes”, also authored by Sidney. Both have mysteries, sorrows, and culmination of ecstasy and joy. The heroine, Tracy Whitney is a con artist and so is her man, Jeff. After playing naughty and corrupt games on evil people and making an ill-gotten fortune, both of them decide to settle down in the continuing novel “Chasing Tomorrow”. A misunderstanding leads to their separation and no matter how much Jeff looks for her, he finds no trace of her. Then Tracy, having her son (which Jeff doesn’t know), is playful and happily living in a ranch high up on the mountains with her old single neighbor. Then gradually she comes to know through a police detective that Jeff’s life is in danger in Europe and someone canny behind the scenes is playing his game on top of them. Tracy remembers how Jeff has once saved her life (as narrated by Sidney in the first novel “If Tomorrow Comes”). She, therefore, leaves her son in her neighbor’s care and flies to Europe following a riddle game arranged by the canny person on top of them.
This person tortures Jeff brutally on the skull and Tracy makes it in time to kill the villain with her small revolver after a thorough ghastly fight. The police also come into the picture and Jeff is taken to the hospital. But Tracy cannot stay all along by his side because of her past as a con artist and the corrupt games she played and cheated on people about which other police detectives are interested now. So she has to fly to her son and neighbor.
There is a reconciliation of Jeff and Tracy on her mountain ranch. But Tracy decides to stay separate and tells him so for the sake of their son. Jeff agrees and leaves. Her son calls him Uncle Jeff and is sad to see him go. He asks his Mom if they will meet Uncle Jeff again because he kind of really likes him. Tracy replies subtly, ” Maybe. You never know what tomorrow holds for you.”
